If you are facing the task of consigning documents to a translation provider for Japanese-to-English translation, there are a few things it would be helpful to know at the outset.
The Value of Specialization
If you are visiting this page, you most likely have Japanese documents to deal with, and your best strategy is to deal with a specialist that has:
- advanced skills in both the language of the original document and the language being translated into,
- deep understanding of the subject matter (technology) of the document, and
- full familiarity with the style required in translating patent and other IP documents.
Many translation providers claim to possess all of these skills; few are actually able to bring all of these skills to the task of performing your translation.

If you have Japanese documents requiring translation, we would counsel against dealing with companies that claim to be able to translate any language in any field because they have hundreds or thousands of translators. At best, this claim is hyperbole. At worst, it hints that the translation provider will likely just scour the Internet for heretofore unknown (to them) translators to translate your Japanese documents after they receive your order.
